How the score is calculated

The score reflects a player's overall performance. It is based on: legs won, the strength of the opponents and special achievements (bonus points).

Opponent strength is the opponent's rating basis — a weighted blend of their own win rate and the average strength of their opponents (avg. opponent strength). So what counts isn't just how often someone wins, but against whom.

Formula:
Rating basis = 75 % × win rate + 25 % × (avg. opponent strength × 100)
Factor = rating basis / 100
Example:
Opponent has a 68 % win rate and an avg. opponent strength of 0.60
Rating basis: 75 % × 68 + 25 % × 60 = 66.00
Factor: 66.00 / 100 = 0.66

Historical rating (snapshot): For each match the rating basis from the last day of the previous month applies — i.e. the standing valid at the time of the game. A win in January is rated, for example, against the December values. This means past results are unaffected when a player later improves or declines.

Important: Only players with at least 2 legs played are rated. Opponents with fewer than 2 legs are considered unrated and count with a fixed factor of 0.20. This value is also the floor: rated opponents with a low rating basis likewise count at least as 0.20.

1. Singles score

The singles score is calculated from legs won against individual opponents. The points per leg equal the opponent's factor. Unrated opponents (<2 legs) count a flat 0.20 points per leg.

Formula:
Points = opponent's factor × legs won
Example:
Opponent has factor 0.66 (see above)
Player wins 3 legs → 3 × 0.66 = 1.98 points
Unrated opponent:
Player wins 2 legs against an unrated opponent → 2 × 0.20 = 0.40 points

2. Doubles score

In doubles, the average of both opponents' factors counts. Unrated opponents are weighted with 0.20.

Formula:
Points = average(factor opponent 1, factor opponent 2) × legs won
Example:
Opponent 1: factor 0.70
Opponent 2: factor 0.40
Average: (0.70 + 0.40) / 2 = 0.55
4 legs won → 4 × 0.55 = 2.2 points

3. Triell score

In a triell, a player competes against two opponents. The stronger opponent counts in full, the weaker one at 25%. Here too, unrated opponents count as 0.20.

Formula:
Points = (max(factor A, B) + 0.25 × min(factor A, B)) × legs won
Example:
Opponent A: factor 0.70
Opponent B: factor 0.40
Score factor: 0.70 + 0.25 × 0.40 = 0.80
2 legs won → 2 × 0.80 = 1.60 points

4. Bonus score

Special achievements award 0.25 points each:

  • Leg with 21 darts or fewer
  • High finish from 100
  • High score from 160 (3-dart throw)
Example:
  • 1× low dart
  • 1× high finish
  • 1× high score
Total points: 3 × 0.25 = 0.75

Total score

The total score is the sum of all sub-areas:

Formula:
Total score = singles + doubles + triell + bonus

Playing strength (Elo)

The playing-strength table answers a different question than the overall ranking: the overall ranking shows who achieved the most overall, playing strength shows who is most likely to win a leg. Attendance and bonus points do not count here, and only singles matches are included.

Every leg is an Elo game of its own with a result: leg won → result = 1, leg lost → result = 0. A 3:1 is therefore four Elo games (result 1 three times, result 0 once). All players start at 1000.

Formula:
Expected leg win rate of A against B: E = 1 / (1 + 10(Elo B − Elo A) / 400)
Change for A per leg = K × (result − E)
result = 1 (leg won) or 0 (leg lost)

K is 16. While a player has fewer than 2 singles legs, K = 32 applies so new players find their level quickly. What counts is the leg count at the start of the club night. With equal ratings every leg is worth ±8 points.

Example: A has 1050, B has 950. A is expected to win 64 % of the legs (E = 0.640).
A wins a leg: +5.76 · A loses a leg: −10.24
3:0 → +17.3 · 3:1 → +7.0 · 3:2 → −3.2
B receives roughly the same value with the opposite sign.

Why does a narrow win cost the favourite points? In a 3:2 A did win, but only 60 % of the legs — 64 % were expected. So A played below expectation. It is the same logic as in the overall ranking: not every leg is worth the same.

Club night as a unit: all legs of a night are calculated with the ratings from the start of the night and only booked afterwards, so the order of entry does not matter. If an old result is corrected, the app recalculates the complete history.

Overall rating: the rating runs over the complete history without a season reset; the ranking's date filter does not apply to Elo. Players are shown if they played at least one singles leg in the last 12 months and have at least 2 singles legs in total. Whoever pauses longer drops out of the table and reappears with their old rating as soon as they play again — there is no decay. Legs against players below the threshold still count.
